Hydro-Demolition
Method

for Concrete Removals

We understand what is important to concrete repair contractors. Bridge deck repair is necessary to keep our nation’s roadway system in service. We have developed the Fast Track Selective Hydro-Demolition Bridge Deck Overlay Method which is used by many highway departments and contractors as the fastest and longest maintenance free construction method to repair and preserve bridge decks. The service life of bridge decks are extended by 25-30 years when this method is used with minimum disruption to traffic.
We understand what is important to concrete repair contractors.
Total surface selective hydro-demolition is much faster and more productive than concrete removal with jackhammers, therefore project durations are minimized and disruption to the general traveling public is kept to a minimum. Concrete demolition can also be performed during night and weekend closures if high traffic volume is an issue.
The Fast Track Selective Hydro-Demolition Method selectively removes delaminated and chloride contaminated concrete and avoids the unnecessary removal of sound concrete. The rough surface left by this process provides an excellent bond. The original concrete surface and any exposed reinforcing are cleaned and ready for new latex modified concrete overlay.
The shorter closure time reduces the cost of construction traffic control, work zone safety measures and road user costs. Deteriorated and chloride contaminated concrete is removed reducing maintenance costs and extending the service life of the new overlay.
I just wanted to drop you a note to express my satisfaction on the excellent job that Hydro-Tech performed on our Contract. The Borman Expressway (I80/94 in Lake county has the highest traffic volume of any road in the state (160,000 vehicles per day) and is the 5th most traveled truck route in the United States.
The hydro-demolition process has always been the most desirable method to use. As stated above, your company’s process meets or exceeds the requirements of our specifications. It always leaves a highly rough surface which allows the overlay latex material to bond very tightly thus producing a deck that has very little delamination problems. Your equipment easily removes all unsound concrete on the deck in a single pass thereby speeding up the construction repair process.
For the past 30 years throughout the United States Latex Modified Concrete overlays have been successfully placed on bridge decks which were prepared through the use of Hydro-demolition. We strongly believe that the use of Hydro-demolition for surface preparation is the fastest and most effective way to prepare a bridge deck for a new Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) overlay.
After observing the hydro-demolition and inspecting the surface for unsound concrete and resteel integrity this office was very satisfied with the demolition process. This method removed all the unsound concrete, cleaned the resteel and provided an excellent bonding surface. This process also kept pace with the fast tracking which was required by the project and was a big part in the contract being finished early…
In my 19-year career, I have seen and have been associated with many projects that I consider to have been excellently planned, well executed, and the finished product to be of excellent quality. This project, however, stands out from any other I have been associated with……On this project I witnessed a total commitment to the project goal and pride in seeing your part done to the highest standard possible …
I would recommend the use of hydro-demolition as an excellent tool in the removal of deteriorated concrete on bridge decks and the use of latex overlay as a excellent means of sealing a bridge deck. I would also like to say that I have been most satisfied with the work Hydro-Technologies has performed in the state of Tennessee and look forward to working with you on future projects.
